Socio-religious environment of Gupta period society: general overview

Abstract

Gupta period has been like a star in the history of Indian culture. In this era, Indian civilization and culture had reached the pinnacle of its development. There was extraordinary progress in the Gupta era in all the fields be it society, politics, literature, art and religion. Historians call the Gupta period in which the movement of renaissance reached the pinnacle of development, achieving many successful achievements in the field of literature and art. This era is called the golden age of Hinduism and the period of Hindu renaissance. The founder of the Gupta dynasty was Chandragupta I. Skandagupta was the last glorious king of this golden age, the sun of whose glory kept shining on the whole of northern India.

Abstract in Hindi Language: भारतीय संस्कृति के इतिहास में गुप्तकाल एक नक्षत्र की भांति रहा है। इस युग में भारतीय सभ्यता और संस्कृति अपनी उन्नति की पराकाष्ठा पर पहुंच गई थी। क्या समाज, राजनीति, साहित्य, कला और धर्म सभी क्षेत्र में गुप्त युग में असाधारण प्रगति हुई। इतिहासवेत्ता गुप्तकाल को जिसमें नवाभ्युत्थान का आंदोलन, साहित्य व कला के क्षेत्र में अनेक सफल सिद्धियों को प्राप्त करता हुआ विकास की चरम पराकाष्ठा तक पहुंच गया था। इस युग को हिन्दू धर्म का स्वर्ण युग और हिंदू नवाभ्युत्थान का काल कहते हैं। गुप्त वंश का संस्थापक चन्द्रगुप्त प्रथम था। स्कन्दगुप्त इस स्वर्ण युग का अंतिम प्रतापी नरेश था, जिसके प्रताप का सूर्य समस्त उत्तरी भारत पर चमकता रहा।
