Abstract

Since ancient times, women have experienced dominance and subjection within patriarchal societies. They continue to face discrimination and denial of rights in many places even at present. Since independence, the Governments of India and every State have implemented a range of policies to grant women equal rights and empower them. The study is carried out with secondary data gathered through analyzing the articles of the Indian Constitution and numerous state and federal government programs for women's empowerment and educational advancement in India.  Additional information is collected from various publications, book chapters, articles, etc. The study aimed to find out the initiatives of the Central and West Bengal state governments for women's education and general empowerment in West Bengal and India and to know the impact of government programs on empowering women. Researchers have found that the initiatives adopted by the governments are helping women to get equal positions in society and facilitate their empowerment. Besides, as women can now participate in a variety of societal fields, it also boosts the country's overall development.
