Abstract

In this ever-changing world, the state of cities has continuously evolved. The size, shape, and structure of cities have also changed over time. Urban civilization emerged alongside cities; however, determining a specific date for its origin is not possible. Some scholars consider the city to be an evolved form of the ancient village. Generally, urban life has certain unique characteristics that distinguish it from rural life, such as population density and expansion, social structure, economic, and political conditions. The expression of urban life in Hindi novels has gradually developed over time. In the early period, this expression emerged in the context of social issues.

Abstract in Hindi Language: इस परिवर्तनशील जगत में नगर की स्थिति सदा से परिवर्तित होती रही है। नगर का आकार-प्रकार तथा उसका स्वरूप भी बदलते रहे हैं। नगरीय सभ्यता का उदय नगर के साथ ही हुआ, परंतु इसकी एक निश्चित तिथि का निर्धारण संभव नहीं है। कुछ विद्वान नगर को प्राचीन ग्राम का विकसित रूप मानते हैं। सामान्यतः नगर जीवन की अपनी कुछ विशेषताएँ होती हैं, जो नगरीय जीवन को ग्राम्य जीवन से पृथक करती हैं, जैसे जनसंख्या घनत्व एवं विस्तार, सामाजिक संरचना, आर्थिक एवं राजनैतिक स्थिति आदि। हिन्दी उपन्यासों में नगरीय जीवन की अभिव्यक्ति का विकास समय के साथ शनैः-शनैः हुआ है। प्रारंभिक काल में इसका विकास सामाजिक समस्याओं के संदर्भ में हुआ।
