Objective: To observe the speech pattern and reason behind speech delay and its development on the basis of several linguistic, social and cognitive factors. Methods: This case study is based on qualitative as well as quantitative data. This study is on a 3 year old female delayed speech child with comparison to a 2 year old female fluent speech child. Behavioural aspects of both the children were studied. Data was collected by questionnaires which constituted of small talks and conversations from daily activities. These were recorded along with their soliloquies. Coloring book was given and asked to color and draw for observation. A longitudinal study was conducted after 2 years on both the children when they aged 5 and 4 years respectively. Results: Although being in a multilingual environment, child was less exposed to conversation from the beginning which may be the plausible reason of delayed speech. Though the subject was silent hearer of the phone call conversations, but speech came after joining pre-school. Less direct conversations with the kid might have also led to the delay of speech.
