Fibromyalgia and Quality of life: A Cross-Sectional study among elderly

A chronic illness that primarily affects the elderly, fibromyalgia is distinguished by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and cognitive impairments. The relationship between fibromyalgia and the quality of life in elderly individuals, emphasizing the need for a multidisciplinary approach to care. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted on fibromyalgia and its effect on quality of life among 50 elderly populations who were selected by stratified sampling technique. The data was collected using diagnostic fibromyalgia criteria, fibromyalgia impact questionnaire and validated tools such as background variables proforma. Results: The percentage distribution of gender were most of the women are affected with fibromyalgia (52%), a higher mean score for emotional health (M = 2.90, SD = 0.32), there was a significant association between age and quality of life among elderly population with fibromyalgia at P < 0.05. Conclusion: Effective care strategies, including pain management, physical rehabilitation, mental health support, and education for both patients and caregivers, are crucial for improving the overall well-being of elderly patients with fibromyalgia.
