Abstract

The present study intends to explore the awareness level of learning disorder called dyslexia among the government primary school teachers of Dimapur district of Nagaland. This study deals with the issues related to children suffering from dyslexia. Dyslexia is one of the learning disabilities and is directly related to children. It can be diagnosed at early age in an appropriate environment. Few studies like Shukla & Agarwal (2015) and Shetty and Rai (2014) have shown that the awareness level among teachers were either very low or medium. The present study was conducted for gathering information on teacher’s awareness level on dyslexia. Number of subjects was 75 government primary school teachers of Dimapur. Result of the study was that only 1 out of 12-13 primary teachers had adequate knowledge and awareness level about this issue. It concluded that only 8% primary school teachers had high level of awareness and knowledge about Dyslexia as well as learning disabilities whereas maximum participants (primary school teachers) had medium level of awareness. It has been suggested that training programs and workshops should be organized so, they can easily diagnose this problem and proper measure can be taken at early age of the child.
